Nostalgia

A memória se dissipa e eu me concentro no caminho à frente. Keep reading →

Keep reading →

As Orkutianas

I.

a felicidade que emana

das coisas simples da vida

me levam

me deixam

a rir:

que comunidade inútil.

II.

O perfil daquele ser,

desconhecido,

é muito constrangedor;

faz-me corar:

cadê o pudor?

Vou-lhe deixar

um scrap comprometedor.

III.

Naquele dia,

acordei com o pé esquerdo.

Quando fui checar o meu orkut,

nenhum scrap novo havia sido escrito.

IV.

scraps.

quando não são muitos,

são poucos.

V.

- Queres ser minha amiga?

Perguntou-lhe o lobo-mau.

- Quero.

Respondeu chapéuzinho.

Ninguém notou as manchas de sangue

na graciosa capa vermelha.

VI.

Joaquim desativou o indentificador de visitas;

e Lili, saiu do orkut e virou alguém importante.

VII.

As orkutianas

te adicionam sem parar.

Não. Não as conheço -

você pode afirmar.

Mesmo assim, elas continuam

a te incomodar.

VIII.

- É uma competição.

Dizem.

E assim,

cada vez mais

amigos fazem.

Amigos.

Será?

IX.

Imagens.

Fotos.

Alter-egos.

X.

As mensagens.

Não. Não as leio.

Entopem minha caixa de entrada.

É curioso notar:

o Orkut não as sabe contar.

XI.

No dia em que entrei,

parecia uma maravilha.

Quantas comunidades!

A todas me unia.

Até que de repente

minha vida estagnou.

- Culpa do orkut.

Me disseram.

E desde então,

pensando estou.

- Quando sairás do orkut?

Um dia.

Es ist so heiß hier! (Es regnet nicht).

…&*@#$%! I hate summer. Ok. Not that that actually hate it. ‘just don’t like it because it’s very warm, it doesn’t snow, there aren’t many cloudy days, and ’cause… cuz…. cuz I just don’t like it. If it’s this hot in July already, I “can’t wait” for August. And can you imagine how summer’s gonna be in 10 or 20 years, with all the global warming? (I wish it rains over here this week. I mean, I wish rain pours down over here.*)

I’m singin’ in the rain / just singin’ in the rain…..

concerning a comment made last post

Yes. I’ve been posting more often this month; which does not mean, however, that I’ll be posting frequently forever. And indeed, I did notice that the number of visitors has doubled (thanks to a link you’ve put in your blog. Thank you, by the way). Unfortunately, I don’t believe that people have been reading this blog (actually it works more like this: I don’t care, since people don’t read my blog for three main “reasonable reasons:” 1. I’ve never advertised it anywhere but Orkut. 2. Most people who access this blog either through Orkut or through É o q há do not understand English. 3. When it turns out that they do undesrtand English, they conclude this blog is useless, frivolous, or not related to any subject of their interest).

Conclusion: You, Matheus de Siqueira, is the only one that actually reads this blog. Since the time you waste here is entirely yours, I won’t say anything but Thank You. If it wasn’t for you, this blog would have no comment whatsoever.

P.S.: Ae… Matheus. Curtiu a homenagem q eu fiz? hehehe…. se vc naum eh o matheus, clique aqui. (Tah…. toh zuando…. naum precisa clicar naum.)… tah … voltando…. se vc naum eh o Matheus, acho q no meu proximo post eu vou colocar uma poesia apoteotica que ele fez a mto mto tempo atras, numa galaxia mto distante (chamada UNASP, naum por um acaso).

by the way…

by the way… my mock congress bill was approved yesterday, after 2 hours of discussion (which is a lot of time for mock congress. I hope they take more time to discuss a bill in real life, though.) and two amendments (one of them proposed by myself). Well…. if ou don’t get what I’m talking about, read the last post….

Mock Congress

It is the last marking period of the year. Therefore, most government classes at Hermitage High School participate of a Mock Congress activity so the students can (sort of) practice what they’ve been learning all year long. I’m the senator for the State of Colorado, and my committee’s bill proposes a ban on public smoking. Well… I have no idea why, but I felt that I should post the speech I gave in support of my bill here (actually, it does not matter, since nobody reads this blog anyway). Hope you enjoy (if possible. lol.). (Please, don’t mind the internal documentation).

Madam President, Parliamentarians, and honorable senators; I, Senator Cléderson Perez, for the glorious State of Colorado, am proud to say that since the Colorado Indoor Clean Air Act took effect last year, Colorado is a healthier state. Unfortunately, today only 13 states have passed acts banning the use of tobacco products inside public establishments, and it is the role of the senate to extend the benefits such bans have brought in those states to all residents of the
United States of America (denver.bizjournals.com). I believe that the Senate Bill #S1 will extend those benefits to the rest of our nation. Indeed, a nationwide smoking ban would bring benefits not only to the health of the American people, but also to the economy of our country.

Nowadays, more than 15 countries throughout the world have some kind of indoor clean air legislation and many others have been studying the adoption of such laws (news.bbc.co.uk/1/). Just last Monday (04/30/07),
Northern Ireland’s smoking ban went into effect (www1.folha.uol.com.br). However, it is not necessary to go abroad in order to find the results of smoking bans; many states and cities within the United States have already approved smoking bans from which we can analyze the results and verify the benefits they have brought (www.smokefreeworld.com). Axolotl

AxolotlTwo weeks ago, I was leafing through the pages of my Literature book when I found a very interesting short story written by Argentine author Julio Cortázar. It is a very captivating fantastical story. It transmits such a melancholic and surreal mood. Check it out if you have some time. You can download the .pdf file with the original version in Spanish and the English translation here.

Julio Cortázar, “Axolotl”

There was a time when I thought a great deal about the axolotls. I went to see them in the aquarium at the Jardin des Plantes[1] and stayed for hours watching them, observing their immobility, their faint movements. Now I am an axolotl. I got to them by chance one spring morning when Paris was spreading its peacock tail after a wintry Lent. I was heading down the boulevard Port Royal, then I took Saint-Marcel and L’Hôpital and saw green among all that grey and remembered the lions. I was friend of the lions and panthers, but had never gone into the dark, humid building that was the aquarium. I left my bike against the gratings and went to look at the tulips. The lions were sad and ugly and my panther was asleep. I decided on the aquarium, looked obliquely at banal fish until, unexpectedly, I hit it off with the axolotls. I stayed watching them for an hour and left, unable to think of anything else. Keep reading →

About (Mexican) housekeepers and Homeland Security

“ Every time a border-patrol officer is transporting a load of future housekeepers and landscapers to some place to be returned, he’s not looking for drug dealers or drug loads.

Michael Chertoff, Homeland Security Secretary, during his first official visit to Mexico, on the need to create a guest work program so U.S. law enforcement can focus on terrorists and other criminals.

Brasil, a comédia. I
